There are some days that feel like they were painted with joy—and our family field trip to the Kohl Children’s Museum was exactly that kind of masterpiece.
Thanks to the incredible support of the Family First Center, my mom and my two boys, Liam and Ivan, got to experience a day filled with laughter, learning, and unforgettable moments—completely free. And let me tell you… it was EVERYTHING.

🎨 Where Imagination Comes to Life
From the moment we walked in, the museum felt like stepping into a child’s dream world. Bright colors, interactive exhibits, and the hum of excited little voices filled the space. It’s not just a museum—it’s a hands-on learning adventure designed especially for kids.
Founded in 1985 by philanthropist Dolores Kohl, the museum blends education with play in the most magical way. Every exhibit is thoughtfully designed to spark curiosity while aligning with Illinois learning standards—but honestly, the kids just think it’s FUN.
🛒 Little Shoppers, Big Smiles
One of Liam and Ivan’s favorite stops? The pretend grocery store!
They grabbed baskets, picked out play food, and took turns being both shopper and cashier. Watching them “check out” groceries and exchange play money was not only adorable—but also a perfect little life lesson in action. My mom couldn’t stop smiling watching them work together and giggle through their roles.

💦 Splash, Race, Repeat!
Next up—water play and racing fun!
Ivan was completely fascinated with the water station, experimenting with how things moved and flowed, while Liam raced cars down tracks, cheering every time his car zoomed past the finish line. These are the moments you wish you could freeze forever—pure joy, curiosity, and laughter.

👨👩👦 Family Moments That Matter
Beyond the exhibits, what made the day truly unforgettable was being together. Parents watching their kids explore, laugh, and learn… it was a full-circle kind of moment. The kind you carry with you long after the day ends.

👨👩👧👦 Why Families Love It
The Kohl Children’s Museum is truly a gem for local families. Whether you’re planning a weekend outing, a playdate, or a full family day adventure, it’s a place where learning and fun go hand in hand. Located at 2100 Patriot Blvd, Glenview, IL 60026, (847) 832-6600.
The Kohl Children’s Museum apart is how immersive it feels. This isn’t a “look but don’t touch” kind of place—kids are encouraged to dive in, get messy, and explore freely.
Everything is scaled just for them, which gives children a sense of independence and confidence as they play grown-up roles in a safe, creative environment.
As my family left—tired, happy, and full of memories—My mom said, "that as she looked at Liam, and Ivan she felt nothing but gratitude."
Grateful for laughter echoing through the exhibits.
Grateful for little hands reaching for big dreams.
Grateful for community organizations that make moments like this possible.
Because in the end, it wasn’t just a field trip…
✨ It was a day of wonder.
✨ A day of connection.
✨ A day of family magic.
🧠 Learning disguised as fun
At first glance, it looks like pure play—but everything here has a purpose. The museum features 17 interactive exhibits built to spark imagination and encourage learning through doing.
Kids can:
- 🛒 Run their own grocery store
- 🐾 Care for animals in a pretend vet clinic
- 🏗️ Build structures and explore engineering
- 🎶 Make music and experiment with sound
- 💧 Splash and discover the science of water
Each space feels like stepping into a tiny world where kids are in charge—and that’s exactly the magic.
🌟 Highlights that kids will absolutely love
🛍️ The Grocery Store
Mini carts, pretend food, and checkout stations turn kids into shoppers and cashiers. Don’t be surprised if they insist on “buying” everything.
🐶 Pet Vet
Future veterinarians get hands-on experience caring for stuffed animals—complete with exam tables and tools.
💦 Water Works
One of the most popular stops! Kids experiment with water flow, splash around, and accidentally learn physics along the way.
🌳 Habitat Park (Outdoor Fun!)
When the weather’s nice, the outdoor space is a must. It features nature play areas, tunnels, gardens, and places to climb and explore.
💡 Pro tip: If you live nearby, a membership can be totally worth it—kids rarely get bored because there’s always something new to explore.
A visit to the Kohl Children’s Museum isn’t just a way to pass time—it’s an experience where kids learn, imagine, and grow without even realizing it.
Expect laughter, a little bit of chaos, and a lot of “Can we come back again?”
